This support extends to those who challenge the idea of gender as binary, thus opening minds to a world of endless possibilities.- As part of it’s mission Margeaux-Mutz facilitates monthly “Chat Groups” that are both social and informative. Each “Chat” provides a safe and welcoming environment to a group of people that often feel alienated and alone. Emphasis is placed at each meeting on non-judgment and input from all who attend while eschewing unsolicited advice. The group meets from 7-8:30PM on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at the United Church in Tallahassee, 1834 Mahan Dr. The group is open to trans people, family, friends and allies. Transgender Tallahassee also sponsors a TRANSGENDER THERAPY GROUP facilitated by Lorin Brand. Lorin is a Certified EMDR Therapist with 8 years counseling adolescents and adults in individual and group settings. Her treatment specializations include issues related to trauma, sexual orientation (LGBTQA), gender identity, sexual functioning, and discrimination. Her primary objective is to help people learn to move past whatever is holding them back from living the satisfying lives they want. Sliding scale rates are available for anyone with financial limitations. The Transgender Therapy Support Group is an open group always up for taking in new members! The group provides a safe space to explore the many complex challenges and joys of the Trans community with the support of people who genuinely care. While everyone brings their own unique perspective and individualistic goals to the group, the primary shared goals are to develop personal insight and coping skills as we support and learn from one another. Also, the group is a great way to make friends along our personal and authentic journeys of self-transformation! The group format is flexible and can be adapted to fit the needs of each participant, including those members who are taking steps to undergo hormonal or surgical transition. The group currently meets every other Wednesday from 5:00 – 6:30pm at Lorin’s office, located at 109 West Fourth Avenue. The fee for the group is $25/session. Transgender Tallahassee also publishes at various time of the year a newsletter called TRANSGENDERSOPE. It’s content is the work of various members of the local transgender community and their allies. Each writer has a story to tell which further cements in our transgender consciousness that we are not alone. Continuing on its theme of education and inclusion Transgender Tallahassee also provides speakers for organizations that wish to illuminate the world on transgender issues.
